In 1989, the University of Science & Technology, Chittagong (USTC) was founded with the sponsorship of a private charity. Started as an institute of Applied Health Science (IAHS), University of Science & Technology, Chittagong is a private university. A few years later, it was upgraded to a full phased university after the promulgation of the Private University Act, 1992.

University of Science and Technology, Chittagong initially began with just two professors and nine lecturers as of today where there are 355 teachers and 4,200 students approx. out of which almost 1,200 students are from Nepal, India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Malaysia, and the United States.
