The government of Bangladesh created Faridpur Medical College in 1992 after upgrading an existing Medical Assistant Training School in the Court Compound area. It is a public institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh, and the college is accredited by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. It is affiliated with the University of Dhaka. Every year, about 100 students are offered entrance to this college. Faridpur Medical College Hospital, with a capacity of 250 in-patients, is located in the town's West Khabaspur region to meet the needs of students in clinical education and practical training.
The Principal and Director, respectively, are the formal titles of the college and hospital heads, and these two sister concerns work together to oversee their operations. Successful candidates are awarded the MBBS degree after completing five years of undergraduate education. After graduation, everyone must apply for registration with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council in order to provide medical care and treatment recommendations to patients and the general public, which requires at least one year of practical training in various departments of an approved hospital.
