The University of Oradea
The University of Oradea (Romanian: Universitatea din Oradea) is an accredited public university located in Oradea in north-western Romania. With 15 faculties, the university has a total of 123 fields of study for undergraduates and 151 post-graduate specialization degrees.
The The University of Oradea employs 1600 people, of which 935 are teaching personnel, and over 19,000 students (including all forms of studies. The University of Oradea is collaborating with 214 universities, institutes, and companies from 31 countries. It is integrated into the European Union’s Socrates and Erasmus programs. There are over 800 international students enrolled in various Faculties.
The University of Oradea has three lecture halls, each with 640 seats, 22 amphitheaters with a total of 1940 seats, as well as 60 lecture and seminar rooms.
The facilities of the university have a 200-seat dining hall and two dormitories for boarding students. The new library is still under construction which, when completed, will be one of the largest in Romania.
The The University of Oradea has an additional facility at Stâna de Vale, in the Apuseni mountains of Bihor county, which includes accommodations as well as educational and recreational facilities.
Romanian language
Candidates who do not speak Romanian can apply for studies in Romanian provided they take a preparatory language course one year before enrolment. At the end of the preparatory year, the candidates will acquire a Romanian language certificate.
Prospective medical students with good knowledge of the Romanian language can seat for a Romanian language test and get a Romanian language certificate.

Oradea is one of the most important economic, social, and cultural centers in the western part of Romania. The city is located in the north-west of the country, nestled between hills on the Crișana plain, on the banks of the Crișul Repede River, which divides the city into almost equal halves. Located about 10 km (6.2 mi) from Borș, one of the most important crossing points on Romania’s border with Hungary, Oradea ranks tenth in size among Romanian cities. It covers an area of 11,556 hectares (28,560 acres), in an area of contact between the extensions of the Apuseni Mountains and the Crișana-Banat extended plain.
Oradea enjoys a high standard of living relative to other Romanian cities and ranks among the most livable cities in the country. The city is also a strong industrial center in the region, hosting some of Romania’s largest companies. Besides its status as an economic hub, Oradea boasts a rich Art Nouveau architectural heritage and is a member of the Réseau Art Nouveau Network. The city lies at the meeting point of the Crișana plain and the Crișul Repose’s basin. It is situated 126 meters above sea level, surrounded on the north-eastern part by the hills of Oradea, part of the Șes hills. The main part of the settlement is situated on the floodplain and the terraces situated down the river Crișul Repede. Oradea is famous for its thermal springs. The river Crişul Repede crosses the city right through the center, providing it with picturesque beauty. Its flow depends on the season; the dykes near Tileagd have partly controlled it since they were built in the early 1980s.
Oradea has a warm-summer humid continental climate (Köppen climate classification Dfb) with oceanic influences. The city’s topo-climatic action is determined by the prevailing Western winds. Summers are long and hot with cool nights. Winters are short and moderately cold.
The annual average temperature is 10.4 °C (50.7 F). In July the average is about 21 °C (70 °F), while in January the average is −1.4 °C (29.5 °F). Rainfall is enough to support the woods and vegetation of the zone, registering an annual average of about 585.4 mm (23.05 in). Rainfall is variably distributed throughout the year, with a maximum in June and a minimum in the late Autumn and Winter months of the year. Oradea is one of the main education centers in Romania.
The city is home to the University of Oradea, one of the largest universities in the country. There are also several private universities, one being Agora University, a modern academic institution founded in 2000. Emanuel University, an accredited private Baptist university, also exists in the city since 2002.
The traditions of higher education in Oradea, metaphorically speaking, go back to time immemorial. This year 2012 there are 232 years since the inauguration of higher education in Oradea and 48 years of continuous higher education in Oradea.
At the end of the 18th century, “a higher institution for philosophic teaching” is founded in Oradea in 1780, which was to become in 1788 the Faculty of Law, the oldest faculty not only within the Romanian borders but also in a vast region of Eastern Europe.
Oradea Medical University Admission procedure differs from the origin of the student: European Union / European Economic Area (EU/EEA) students after receiving the Ministry of Education certificate giving them the right to pursue high education in Romania, they must seat for the entrance exam of biology and chemistry. Non-EU/EEA students must get an acceptance letter from the Ministry of Education and are exempted from the entrance exam.
For Oradea Medical University Admission in English module, students have a good command of English or Romanian (depending on the medium of study). Students who speak English but do not have an official International recognized certificate can be admitted on condition they pass the English test at Oradea medical University. Those from English-speaking countries or who have been studying in English for at least 2 years are exempted from the English test. Foreign students are enrolled in the program without admission examination, above the set number of Romanian students approved.
Generally, foreign students are enrolled in university and post-academic programs after completing the preparatory year of Romanian language study. During this year you also benefit from specific training for your future education.
After completion of the preparatory year, you will hold a test that confers a Certificate of Graduation of the Preparatory Year. For registration in faculties where teaching is held in a foreign language, you will have to pass a test in that specific language. Persons who are from a country having the official language the language of study and have taken courses previously in the same language are exempted from the test.
Applicants who studied in their country for 4 years in the Romanian language are exempt from the language test and the preparatory year. Also, applicants who speak Romanian and can hold the language test without the preparatory year may do so.
Foreign citizens who intend to study architecture, arts, or sports must hold an aptitude test specific to their specialization, before enrollment.

The University of Oradea is recognized by WHO, Great Britain Medical Council, Medical Council of Canada, American Board of Medicine, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, South African Medical Council, Indian Medical Council, Nigerian Medical Council, Malaysia Medical Council, South American Medical Councils and many other Medical and Dental Councils all over the world.
The admission to a medical study into the University of Oradea is by an entrance exam. For admission to general medicine in English, the entrance exam is Biology and Chemistry of high school level.
The prospective candidates coming from non-English speaking countries and do not have an internationally recognized certificate or have never studied in English at least 2 years must seat also for English tests which are eliminatory.
The entrance exam is a multiple-choice in Biology or Chemistry. The candidate will have to choose one subject out of the two.
The clinical courses are taking place in the Bihor County Hospital, the Municipality Hospital, and the Pelican Hospital.
Part of the students of our university is accommodated in places having this very destination. These include 2 own hostels situated on the campus that offer 656 seats, 3 hostels situated in Oradea and Sânmartin (588 seats), and a hotel in Baile Felix Spa (300 seats). Moreover, it is stipulated the construction of 6 own hostels having 800 seats.
Equipped according to the actual requirements, they are estimated to satisfy to a large extent the demand for future students.
Foreign students who are studying at our university can obtain accommodation and food in the campus facilities upon room availability. Students benefit from discounted transportation and room and board, subject to availability.
Our campus, covering an area of 14300 square m., is one of the coziest university campuses in Romania. This aspect is given by the successful combination between the architecture of the buildings and the little deontological park having species like “Rhododendron stocky”, “Fortitia suspense Catalpa”, sp “Bella Verucosa”, “Cerasus Aoium”, “Sophora Japonica”, Salix Babylonica” etc., some of them being rarities.
Studying at Oradea University is possibly one of the most affordable options available to International foreign medical students. When compared to other European medical schools, Oradea University offers extremely reasonable medical tuition fees, and the living expenses in Oradea are more affordable than one would find in Western Europe and other developed nations.
