Southern Medical University
Southern Medical University, formerly known as First Military Medical University, affiliated to the
People's Liberation Army of China, is an institution of higher learning in Guangzhou, the capital
city of Guangdong Province, China. It was founded in 1951 and became a national key universities in
1979. Approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission of the PLA, the university
came under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province in August 2004, whereupon it was renamed Southern
Medical University.
Southern Medical University is in the foothills of the picturesque Baiyun Mountain in
Guangzhou. The main campus, together with its south campus in the southern suburb of Guangzhou,
covers an area of nearly one square kilometre. It has been awarded the first-class garden-like
university, for rows of green trees nourish and bouquets of flowers blossom on the campuses all
throughout the year.
This university offers courses in Clinical Medicine at the Bachelors and Masters levels, in
Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, economics and medical-related fields. Students are
also taught English (for Chinese students) and Mandarin Chinese (for foreign students) at the basic
level.
Southern Medical University is recognised by the World Health Organization and by the Medical
Council of India.

The First former Military Medical University in China is known as Southern Medical University.
It was established in October, 1951. The University was affirmed as one of the leading therapeutic
colleges of China in 1978. It was renamed as Southern Medical University in the later years. This
was done in August, 2004 with the instruction of the Central Military Committee of PLA and the
State Department.
It is spread in a large area of about one million square meters filled with lush greenery and
it is located at the foot of the picturesque Baiyun mountain in Guangzhou.
The University offers Masters, Bachelors, and Doctoral Degree courses in Clinical Medicine,
Experimental Technology for Medical Use, Nursing, Pharmacology of Chinese Herbs, Traditional
Chinese Medicine, Medical Testing, Radiation Technology, Biological Medical Imaging, and Medical
Imaging. Southern Medical University feels proud of his staff individuals and resources. The
University contains more than 840 educators and associate professors in the University.
Step 1: Students must fill the application form for studying medicine in China along with the necessary attested documents as specified.
Step 2: Then they must pay application fees, admission fees and the processing fees. Students must make advance payment for the application fees and the admission fees but the processing fees can be either sent to China or India whichever is earlier.
Step 3: All the applicants will receive the official photocopy of the admission letter issued by the university after payment of fees within a time span of seven to ten working days.
Step 4: The candidates should send the documents for processing to the Ministry of Education in China once the letter is received.
Step 5: The complete process of receiving the admission letter and the issuance of the Chinese visa requires about 30 days.
The eligibility criteria to study MBBS at Southern Medical University is as follows:
1.The age of the applicant must be within 17 years and 30 years.
2.Students must have completed their 12th standard or any equivalent education with minimum
70% aggregate marks.
3.Students must have taken Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as the main subjects at the 10+2
level.
4.The applicant must have a strong academic background.
5.The student must have proficiency in English language.
6.The student must be in good physical and mental health condition.
