The ILOILO DOCTORS’ COLLEGE OF MEDICINE was established on February 13, 1972, as the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery. The Iloilo Doctor's College of Medicine opened its doors to the first Nursing and Midwifery students in June 1972. At its inception, the Iloilo Doctor's College of Medicine functioned as the educational arm of the ILOILO DOCTORS’ HOSPITAL (IDH) which was founded the year before.
After a year of operation, the members of the IDH, Incorporated decided that it would be more efficient, practical, and financially convenient to organize a sister corporation that will own and operate the new school. Hence, the INTEGRATED EDUCATIONAL CORPORATION, ILOILO, or IECI was formed and subsequently approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission on February 9, 1973.
With new capital funds generated by the new corporation, the construction of additional and permanent concrete buildings and expansion of the existing facilities were undertaken on the school site behind IDH. Later Iloilo Doctor's College of Medicine’s 1,200-seat College Gymnasium and a 50 x 25-foot swimming pool and bathhouse were built on the nearby campus on Timawa Avenue.
The first Midwifery students were graduated in March 1974 followed by the graduation of the first Nursing students on March 15, 1975. The Medical Secretarial Course was also opened in 1974. On June 2, 1975, the graduate in Nursing and Midwifery Courses were given government recognition. The Iloilo Doctor's College of Medicine became a popular college of medicine in the Philippines.

It aims to provide medical students with a well-rounded preparation in knowledge skills and attitudes to enable them to deliver or provide primary health care, as well as the necessary background to undergo postgraduate training and practice in any of the specialties in medicine and surgery or to engage in medical research.
The cornerstone philosophy of the College of Medicine is service with a human touch to the sick and the infirm and the community in general along with the ideals of the great humanitarians of the past and the present, as vividly expressed in an exhortation attributed to one of them, Dr. Albert Schweitzer, who once wrote: “The scholar must not live for science alone, nor the businessman for his business, nor the artist for his art. If affirmation for life is genuine, it will demand from all that they should sacrifice a portion of their own lives for others.
The Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Medical Curriculum is designed to produce Doctors with attributes of a Five-Star Physician as described by the WHO in a circular dated 1995 and endorsed by a CHED Memorandum Order No. 10 series of 2006.
The Educational Approach to the Program retains the traditional teaching methodology with Problem Based Learning thru Integrated Case Discussion from the first to the third year of Medical Education.
