In view of a lack of Pediatricians in the area and a high infant mortality rate in the region, the institute's main objective was to train highly qualified doctors and Pediatricians. A change in name to Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute took place in 1989 by the Uzbek Ministry of Health. Pediatrics has been a major focus of the university for many years. Pediatrics, Pediatrics, medical biology, and medical pedagogical and medical faculties comprise the undergraduate program. Several departments within each faculty offer courses. Students interested in doctoral studies have the option of applying to two doctoral programs.
