In some specialities the training is also delivered in English (about 20 specialities) and French (general medicine, pharmacy). Candidates choosing the training in English or French must have an interview to check their language competency upon arrival. The results of international language tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, CAE, DALF, TCF etc.) are not required. Irrespective of the medium of instruction, a Russian language course is an integral and important part of the curriculum. Knowledge of the Russian language is essential for international students in Russia for everyday life, communication in and outside the university, and for comprehensive use of the millions of pieces of educational literature available throughout the whole period of study

Training of foreign citizens in the State universities of Russia is subsidized by the Government of Russia. Therefore, the average cost of tuition depending on the speciality, university, city and medium of instruction is 2500-4000 U.S. dollars for one academic year. Thus, the cost of education in Russian universities for foreign students to a greater extent is already subsidized by the Government of the Russian Federation. The student pays only a small part in addition to state subsidies.

The “invitation letter for study” – is an official document, that is issued at the Department of Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation. It usually takes around 35 to 45 days to issue the official “Invitation Letter for Studies”. An invitation letter confirms the fact that a student can get admission to one of the universities in Russia. A student’s visa can proceed at the Embassy/General Consulate of the Russian Federation only if the original of the official ‘invitation letter for study” issued by the Department of Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation is provided. The invitation letter is valid for the period from 30 to 90 days from the date of issue, so to get a student visa and enter the territory of Russia, you should apply to the Embassy/Consulate General of Russia in due time. Remember: The student must enter Russia 15 days before the end of the "Student visa" expiration date!

A moderately continental climate is prevalent in all parts of the country. All four seasons – summer, autumn, winter and spring – are easily distinguished. Each season lasts for approximately three months, making the climate comfortable for the country’s inhabitants. The average temperature in summer is +25C. It becomes colder in autumn – from +10 C to +15 C. In winter the temperature is from 15 C to +5 C. It becomes warmer in spring – from +10C to +15C. As Russia stretches across a vast area from south to north and from west to east, the climate varies in different parts of the country.

All Russian student hostels have a kitchen on each floor, where you can prepare food according to your taste. There is a good tradition in hostels to invite classmates and friends for a dinner of your national cuisine: European, Asian, Arab, African, Latin American. A wide range of products from around the world, presented in Russian stores, allows a foreigner to stick to his/her national meals, which he/she was accustomed to at home. Before coming to Russia, it would be useful for a student to learn how to cook, to be able to use the skills for personal needs as well as to treat your friends and neighbours during the National culture days, organized by universities. Average food expenses for students are $ 250 per month. The student may also attend cheap student cafes, the average cost of a fixed student meal (soup, main dish, salad, tea) is about 3-5 U.S. dollars.
